Christmas Medley

Posted in We be Musicians on December 16th, 2008 by nathan – 1 Comment

Grandma filmed this clip of Nathan and Dad participating in the Christmas sing program at a Baptist church in Eugene. It starts and ends with the tune of the little drummer boy and has some hymns parts in the middle. The video and vocal tracks are not aligned, but you may be able to tell why that is by listening carefully to the ending lyrics composed by the banjo and guitar players. Leave a comment if you know what happened, and ask for the link to the original, if you dare.

NB esta completo.

Finally! Nathansband.com is complete! After hours and hours of hard work and brain storming the design, the fonts, the tag line, the content: It is here! It already blows my mind the intricacies of Gods handiwork in his creation, whats furthermore incredible is, his creation can imagine, think, calculate, design, sing, and be completely creative and create!

Our creator made humans who could create. I like my designs, just as artists are proud of their paintings. But lets try to see the bigger picture. The bigger God. The Psalm 139 God.

Christmas Carols in Bethlehem and Jerusalem

Singing Christmas Carols in Bethlehem’s Manger Square on Christmas Eve was interesting and mostly enjoyable. The square was packed with Arab men, hardly a women in sight. When some teens came up from behind Nathan and untuned his guitar while he was playing it, he gracefully turned it into a drum. When other boys were getting too aggressive with making sexual faces at Renae, Karen pulled her in close and returned a glare only a protective mother could give, asking, “Don’t you have a sister?” in an attempt to shame them. Many, if not most, Arabs in Bethlehem understand English because their livelihood depends on the tourist trade. Despite these uncomfortable instances, the time was great fun and many gospel tracks in Arabic were handed out.

“I want to know you more” sung in Spanish at the Santa Ponsa Community Church, on the island of Mallorca, Spain, January 27, 2008, evening meeting. An hour or so before the service, Pastor Rafael mentioned that he didn’t think he had anyone to lead worship. Karen and Nathan quickly put a Spanish set together and were delighted to help out. Usually the church has plenty of talented Calvary Chapel College students to lead but the semester wasn’t starting for a few more days and most had not yet returned from Christmas break. Pastor Rafael is an excellent teacher in both English and Spanish. We had a great three day visit before flying onto Madrid. It is so nice to have family where ever we land.

Inspired by a poster, here is Justin and Dad playing “Oh When The Saints” in the Paris underground.
Renae filmed. Mom turned away in embarrassment. Nathan smiled politely.

Jamin’ in Da Bar, Mon ;D

In September, 2007, during the time Mom went to see her mom, our GiGi, in the USA, Dad took us couch surfing in northern Spain. I’ve finally got the video uploaded :) Our bluegrass style is plenty different then reggae, but even so, we had a great time playing some music for some folks at a bar in Aviles, Asturias, Spain. We weren’t planning to play in a bar. We were expecting to play some music for our 2 couch surfing hosts in their small apartment, but they had invited so many friends over they decided to open up the bar that there mother owned around the corner. We ended up performing a gig for about a dozen people…
Here’s a little clip of “I saw the Light”. Just remember, we are better than what we appear ;) Check out that body beat’n happy slappin’ madness though! :D

Yours Truly,
Nate
