Gibraltar rock

howldoh!

“Look! There it is!” cried Mom as we approached Gibraltar rock at midnight. It just looked like a hugenormis rock, and it definitely didn’t look habitable from my point of view. As we got closer, I could get the full aw at the almost vertical sides of the rock.

The next day, we were traveling around, having our hosts show us the rock. It rocked! My dad had gotten in touch with one of his internet students, asking if we could stay with them. They answered yes. As we were driving up to the uppermost part of the rock, Nathan, me, and two of the kids got dropped off to go walk to the upper part of the island. The grown ups tried to get up another way in the car, but never found us, so we were left to walk home alone.

We found the monkeys, and one of them took Kevin’s wallet! He ran around a bit, making us creep along rafters and climb stuff to try to get it. Finally The monkey dropped it in some urine infested water, and then ran off, screeching. Kevin patiently got it, and dried it off in the hot sun. We saw lots of monkeys, and played with them a bit. One of the kids would hold out his hand, closed, and the monkey would desperately try to get it open, looking for food. I gave the monkey a rubber bracelet to play around with, and enjoyed watching it try to eat it. The monkey, after realizing that the bracelet wasn’t edible, threw it off the cliff. So much for that.

As we were walking back, Kevin taught me to slap box, which, in case you didn’t know already, is basically playing drums on your body. He also taught my how to do some pretty cool tricks with a yo yo when we got back to the house. We stayed there for about a week, and then reluctantly, with hugs and handshakes and goodbyes, we left again to continue traveling about. What a great experience we had!
