The Wailing Wall

Mom and I went to the wailing wall or the Western Wall or the Kotel (however you like to call it). I walked up to the wall and saw many people weeping, wailing, praying, kissing it, writing prayers down on paper and folding them up carefully to put them in the deep crevices of the ancient wall which probably dates to about 30 B.C.. The Wall was filled (literally!) with prayers. Wow… Jesus probably walked right past this old city wall. Maybe he touched it! Other people were taking pictures as tourists, and some were reading from the Torah (our Old Testament). Some were praying some laughing and playing in a Jewish celebration. Jewish women were standing on chairs to peek over to the men’s side to try and join in on their party. I wonder what God thinks about that sacred wall.

Since the temple was destroyed in about 70 A.D. about 40 years after the death and ressurection of Messiah, the temple mount. has been without a Jewish temple, and out of Jewish control. The large stones of the “Western Wall” are remains of the wall from the time of Jesus built by Herod. The steps leading up to the wall on the south of the Temple Mount. were very likely used by Jesus for 20+ years of his life, they were partly cut out of the mountain, and have remained for 2000+ years. They led up to the temple mount which has been changed over the years and the 5 gates through the south wall have been sealed off. Although the Eastern wall also contains old stones the Arab Cemetary built along it has made it unsuitable for a Jewish holy place. Also the Eastern Wall is outside of the city while the Western wall is inside of the city and within the “Jewish Quarter” of the Old City. I believe the Arabs helped fulfill Ezekiel 44: 1&2, when they sealed the Eastern Gate!
