From Dublin we rented a car and went straight out to Kilkenny and then on throughout the wonderfully green Ireland. We made our way to the home of a lovely family, a single mom with her delightful daughter, and stayed a night with them.
Our hostess took us to a beautiful beach and a calm lake. [images are clickable for enlargement] As we toured around the coast of the “sunny south east” we chatted about all sorts of things. Among these we chatted about recycling. It seems that all through Ireland recycling is huge! This ecologically conscience women, by the end of the month, has about a handful of trash. During our stay, my parents, my brother and I went to an Irish pub. My father and I
brought a guitar, a banjo and a handful of harmonicas. We ended up joining a group of musicians for a fun night of lively Irish music and ballads. Justin sang the only Irish song he knew and had the whole pub laughing by the end of it.
The Eiffel tower was made in memory of the French Revolution. Gustave Eiffel’s design was chosen out of 700 proposals that where submitted for a design competition. At 300 meters (320.75 m including antenna), and 7,000 tons, it was the world’s tallest building until 1930.
The moment we got to the Eiffel tower, I thought: That would be pretty cool to get pictures of Paris from up there. Not to mention even being up there. But unfortunately, the line seemed to stretch on forever. We didn’t go up that day. We went up that night. We stopped by that night, and only had to wait for about 2 minutes to get on the elevator. The elevator somehow was lifted by weights.
Glass windows were on all sides of the elevator, except the floor. It was crowded with tourists, but even so I got a video of us going up. Continue reading ‘The Eiffel tower’
In September, 2007, during the time Mom went to see her mom, our GiGi, in the USA, Dad took us couch surfing in northern Spain. I’ve finally got the video uploaded
Our bluegrass style is plenty different then reggae, but even so, we had a great time playing some music for some folks at a bar in Aviles, Asturias, Spain. We weren’t planning to play in a bar. We were expecting to play some music for our 2 couch surfing hosts in their small apartment, but they had invited so many friends over they decided to open up the bar that there mother owned around the corner. We ended up performing a gig for about a dozen people…
Here’s a little clip of “I saw the Light”. Just remember, we are better than what we appear
Check out that body beat’n happy slappin’ madness though!
Remember that movie with the rat who hates eating junk and wants to become a chef in Paris? Perhaps you need to see it! (here is the trailer) In the end of the movie, the little rat makes a special French country dish called “Ratatouille.” It is a real dish and looks just like it does in the movies. We ate it with a French family in their home for dinner! After the main dish our hosting family fed us Chocolate cake, as it was my brothers birthday, and we had sips of champaign (That’s European culture for ya
).
Currently my father is giving the head of the house a harmonica lesson while my sister is teaching Marion, our “Couch hostess”, the cup game. (Couch Hostess?? Check out how we roll, where we end up and why here) Continue reading ‘Ratatouille and “Happy Birthday” in French’
