My Asturian Journey
My trek began as I searched for a deserted town that was said to be up on the hill behind our apartment in Collanzo, but afterwards I figured out that I was really on the wrong mountain all the time. I took my bike and rode until I met the bottom of the hill, then I pushed my bike back up. When I was half way up, some Spaniard boys my age asked if I wanted to play soccer, “Qiueres jugar futbol con nosotros?”. I said yes.
We all went up to a small school to play. They nicknamed my Just, because they couldn’t pronounce “Justin”. I decided that whatever Asturiano I met, I would have him or her call me Just. We played soccer for about an hour on a cement court that had basketball hoops at each end. One boy asked about George Bush. I did not want to say anything that might offend, but luckily a soccer ball hit him in the head and we continued playing. Afterwards they asked me if I would like to come over to the school tomorrow at three O’clock to play some more soccer. I said yes, and then, leaving, I went down the hill to the main street. I had been gone for about three hours and my brother had been looking for me. My mom was a bit worried to.
This is just one of the many small adventures I have, Its hard not to have them, living in the mountains of a foreign country
I’ll keep you posted!
